Sapphire is certainly a gem of heaven. In a world where the future is cloudy and we don’t know how our future generations will learn a thing or two from their ancestors, it is sapphire that will make sure that the information heirloom would remain intact.
But how is this possible? How can a gem become a source of information?
Well, according to the latest research, it will be the sapphire disks that will safely carry the history of civilization in the future. It is true, as platinum plated sapphire disks have been proposed as a ‘long time storage solution’. And when we say ‘long term’, it means as long as millions of years.
So far, you must have only seen sapphires in rings, earrings and various types of jewelry. Probably an engagement ring or a pendant or the old world amulets are the few things sapphires have been used. But this gem of wisdom will soon be a safe courier that that will forward the pool of knowledge to the future earthlings.
According to a report, such a disk will be made of two thin disks of industrial grade gemstone. The disks will be of approx eight inches. The analytical estimations state that a single disk could store approx 40,000 miniature pages of pictures and/or text after which it will be fused together. The prototype disk of approx $30,000 would be submerged in acid to test aging and durability.
